Well we have finally unpacked and settled into our new home. It has been wonderful hearing from all of you via comments, emails and DM on Instagram after posting about my ex-husband and I re-marrying. This new home feels like a fresh start in so many ways for the both of us. It’s truly a blessing at this second chance we have. I come from a very big family and I also love to entertain and have intimate dinners so decorating a dining room that was comfortable yet also aesthetically pleasing was very important to me. I think the environment of a dining space sets the tone as to whether or not your dinner guests want to linger or not. I have so many beautiful pieces that I have been lucky to find over the past several years, and it’s nice to be able to use some of them again. I have certainly gotten used to rescuing and restoring furniture to a beautiful state with paint, but I love chippy old painted items too and in this dining room space I have been able to incorporate two pieces that fit that. The buffet table and the vintage fireplace mantel. The table I purchased from Joss and Main about 2 years ago and I really like it, but I’m looking forward to my new custom farmhouse table from my carpenter, which will arrive shortly. The chairs are from Restoration Hardware, but you can find some similar ones here. If you follow me on Instagram here, then you know how I was looking for a chandelier before moving in and how happy I was to find this beautiful vintage one at a local fine antiques store. It’s one of my favorite pieces I own now. The candlestick collection I have acquired over the years and have gotten them from various places including HomeGoods, Etsy, PotteryBarn and even flea markets. The natural jute table runner is so versatile and I use it a lot because it goes with any season. I got it from Pier one and you can find it by clicking here.
My mantel…oh how I love you… (don’t mind the tiny plaster particles underneath) I obviously forgot to clean that up after my carpenter attached the mantel to the wall lol). Now back to this beauty….This was deal…wait no a STEAL…I got it for only…wait for it $125 on Craigslist. Yes, I had to drive an hour to Massachusetts to pick it up, but it was well worth it. I have thought about painting it, but I’m really kinda digging the old patina and chippy paint. The lantern I ordered from one of my home décor vendors and the art above the mantel I got several years ago from HomeGoods. I’m not quite sure what it is, but the simplicity of it spoke to me none the less so I had to get it.
This old buffet, again, was a score a few years back from Craigslist. I painted it with Annie Sloan chalk paint and it attained this distressed look MOSTLY from me moving from state to state (CT to OH and back to CT) and house to house but I did do a LITTLE and I mean little light hand sanding to add a bit more wear and tear to the overall look. The lamps, again I got about 6 years back from HomeGoods and the LOVE sign I found at TJ Maxx about 2 years ago.
I love the open concept from the living room into the dining room and here is the view. Pretty nice huh. Overall, I have a few more things to add, but I’m looking forward to sharing many meals in this dining space with family and friends.
