Now that Christmas is past us and we are settling back into our normal routines, I wanted to inspire you all to get together with your loved ones for a movie night. Who wouldn’t want to curl up to a good movie? I recently had a girl’s night in movie party to watch the newly released Sony movie War Room found at Walmart. This year was emotionally and spiritually challenging and it was just the type of movie we needed to to see. It was a year that tested my faith as a Christian. Having a personal breast cancer scare, nearly losing my sister after she went into cardiac arrest and a challenging time in my relationship. Having faith that all would be OK was sometimes the only thing I could hold on to. I’m glad this time was set aside for us all to come together in joy vs. sorrow. Before the girls came over to feed our souls, I headed to Walmart to get some of my favorite items to Make It A Movie Night that I would use to set up a popcorn bar. I thought this would go well with some pizza. I picked up a 6 pack of Orville Redenbacher’s movie theater butter popcorn, M&M’S® Chocolate Candies and some other goodies.
I just LOVE the little containers…they are just the right size for snacking!
On the popcorn bar I offered 2 types of popcorn. A grown up gourmet flavored one and a popcorn mix just right for the kiddos. In the popcorn mix, I tossed the Orville Re
denbacher popped popcorn, some of the M&M’S® Chocolate Candies, some craisins, and a bag of trail mix. Honeslty, the sky is the limit when it comes to your popcorn mix. You can truly customize your popcorn mix with anything that you want. For the adult popcorn flavor, Truffle Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn, here is the recipe I came up with:
The glass jars I picked up from Walmart as well as the plastic scoops. If you are wary of glass jars around children, they also had some very pretty clear acrylic ones in which you could choose from. The kraft colored tags I used for labeling the jars I picked up at my local craft store. (I’m looking forward to taking a calligraphy class in March so my handwriting hopefully becomes much prettier) A girl can hope right!
Although not necessary, feel free to sprinkle dried parmesan cheese over your popcorn. It adds a really nice burst of flavor.
The darling popcorn boxes I picked up at my local party store. If you can’t find these, another alternative would be Chinese takeout boxes that you can also find at your local party store and they come in a variety of colors.
Make sure you chill your soda prior to your guests arriving. Serve them chilled in a nice glass bowl, so that your guests enjoy them to the fullest. Feel free to offer more than one beverage or even water for those that don’t prefer soft drinks. I picked up the glass bottles of the Coca-Cola because I think drinking beverages from glass bottles are refreshing. I also picked up the glass bowl from Walmart.
If you want to serve plain butter popcorn, try offering some popcorn seasonings. These can be found in the snack aisle. I offered ranch and cheddar. They were definetly used a lot.
I had little kraft paper snack bags ready for my family to fill with the M&M’S® Chocolate Candies. I found them at Walmart. The napkins I found at my local party store.
The popcorn was a hit!
This movie has recharged my spirit. War Room reminds us to be strong in our faith and not rely on our own understanding, but to trust in the existence of a higher power, other than ourselves.
